More than 100 shipping line, port, government and other maritime
executives are gathering Thursday at Tacoma’s Hotel Murano to discuss
compliance with new emission rules for large ships.
The new rules, effective Aug. 1, require large ship operators to
reduce emissions from their vessels when operating within 200 miles of
the coasts of the United States or Canada.
The maritime executives will share information about strategies to
meet the new rules. Those strategies range from burning cleaner fuels to
installing emission control devices on the ships’ engines. The forum
will also include information about how the United States and Canada
plan to enforce the regulations
