DNV Petroleum Services (DNVPS) announced in an emailed press release today it is setting up a dedicated laboratory in Singapore to focus on research and development, and specialised tests.
Located next to its existing laboratory at its Singapore headquarters,
DNVPS said it will be leveraging its fuel quality testing experience,
"huge database", world-wide fuel laboratories, and global network of
customer offices to develop more laboratory specialists and be more
customer-centric in its service offerings.
"We want to provide more value to our customers. Our new R&D
laboratory will undertake specific and in-depth analysis of fuel
quality, troubleshooting, development of new test methods and services,"
commented Eirik Andreassen, Managing Director of DNVPS. "operational challenges are exacerbated by "unconventional components"
DNVPS said it plans to "delve deeper" into fuel related issues onboard
ships, as well as increase the number of joint industry projects that it
runs with its partners and customers, and share its knowledge and
innovations with the maritime industry.
The fuel testing agency also said it would tackle issues reported from the use of low sulfur fuels,
saying that operational challenges are exacerbated by "unconventional
components" being blended into bunker fuel for use within Emission
Control Areas.
"We may have to conduct extensive tests and dig deep into the chemical
composition of the fuels before we can determine the underlying cause of
different problems - for instance, fuel pump sticking, filter clogging
or poor combustion," added Andreassen.
