eNCA News posted an update today on the ongoing salvage of the MV
Smart and the potential environmental impact of the cargo of coal that
is open to the sea.
“The salvage has so far been very successful,” notes Captain Saroor Ali from the SA Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
In a statement obtained by East Coast Radio,
Captain Nigel Campbell from SAMSA notes that the pumping operation to
remove the fuel oil is about one-third of the way complete.
